The definition of “hosting” does not describe a single service, but a variety of services that offer a variety of functions to a domain. Having a site and e-mails, for instance, are two independent services although in the general case they come together, so most of the people consider them as one single service. The truth is, every domain has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that manages each specific service - the former is a numeric IP address, that specifies where the website for the domain name is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that manages the emails for the domain name. As an example, an A record would be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Every time you open a website or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a Internet domain has and the traffic/message is first forwarded to that company. In case you have custom records on their end, the Internet browser request or the email will then be directed to the correct server. The idea behind working with separate records is that the two services work with different web protocols and you can have your site hosted by one provider and the emails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each and every shared hosting service we offer you, will allow you to view, change and set up A and MX records for every domain or subdomain in your account. Using the DNS Records section, you'll be able to view a list of all hosts in the account in alphabetical order with their related records, so any update is not going to take you more than a few mouse clicks. Setting up new records is equally easy if, for example, you would like to use the email services of a different service provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default two. Also you can set the priority for every single MX record by setting different latency. Quite simply, when your emails are delivered, the sending server is going to contact the record with the smallest latency first and in case the connection times out, it will contact the next one. Using our innovative tool, you are going to be able to control the records of your domains and subdomains with ease even if you have no prior experience with such matters.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, included with our semi-dedicated servers, will enable you to see the A and MX records for each of the domains or subdomains in your account and if required, to edit any of them or create new ones. Controlling these records is quite easy because all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so updating a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes only a few more clicks and if you experience any difficulties, you can check out our video tutorials on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by individuals with no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to give you total control of all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are moving your e-mails to a different service provider and they ask you to create more than two different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
